Frank takes over Coleman and Sons, diamond merchants, when his father dies, and his ruthless business practices make enemies of his friends and family. His wife Margaret is tempted to leave him when she falls in love with his buyer, Bernard. Frank, racked with guilt at having cheated a survivor of the concentration camps out of a fortune, believes that decision has brought down a curse on his life.
