Bu qiu ren

The literal translation of the title of this film is: Not Depending on Others.The film is actually a very good pioneer of introspection on the Chinese tradition, namely, Confucian teachings that emphasize on maintaining family and friendship. The film advocates the idea of not depending on other people but depending on yourself, which was a good idea, but this lacks the support from the public because China was at war and people were trying to survive World War II first and one of the main reason they survived was the help from relatives and friends. As a result, the idea of the film did not sell and resulted in poor box office performance.
