Trout Stream

The life cycle of the Eastern Brook Trout in its natural habitat is presented. The chronology presented is from summer as adults, it when most of their natural activity of feeding takes place, to swimming upstream in autumn to gravel beds to spawn, to the hatching of the eggs and the emergence of the fry to start life in spring. Most of its activity is on instinct, and largely a response to other movement within their vicinity, whatever they see moving on which they will feed. They are territorial creatures and will protect their territory against others trying to encroach on it. The adults will also feed on the young that are deemed too weak to survive. Over the generations, they have become smaller animals and fewer in numbers due to the degradation of their habitat largely the result of deforestation, although a few do make it onto the end of a fisher's line.
