Eva is a teenage girl on the Prairies. She finds her parents irrevocably remote from her and has suicidal tendencies. She wishes the earth would open up and swallow her. Left behind at a gas station, she becomes the unwitting participant in a robbery by another youth, with whom she forms a strange kind of bond. Arrested while helping him flee, she wonders at her situation in life.
