This film examines the social and political struggle of South Africa's black community today, when they must deal with the after-effects of decades of apartheid rule. The video profiles Zandile Gumede, a 35-year-old Zulu woman elected as representative for the Amaoti district, outside Durban. In her struggle to bring social improvements to her community, and fight against ignorance, violence, machismo and oppressive conditions, Zandile draws her strength from Ubuntu, the ancestral belief that a person exists only through others.
