Covered in Fleas

Lulu narrates a recent event in her life. At night, she has walked home from work, through threatening streets where men hassle her, and arrived at home where her jobless husband, J.J., watches television. The mail includes a letter from a sweepstakes company telling her that she may already be a winner. J.J. has not looked for a job, has made no dinner, and wants to go out (spending more of Lulu's earnings). They argue, he storms out the door, slamming it behind him. She weeps.
