No Man's Land

Nina Rosenmeier has to be congratulated on this fine feature debut. The film was apparently improvised by actors who are now well known in the Danish circles and even beyond. Scottish actor Johnny Melville's portrayal of the confused angry Dennis is well worth the award he received at the Brooklyn Film Festival 2001. His performance is subtle, riveting and exciting. Other notable performances include the delectable Andrea Vogn Jensen and the gentle method actor Peter Ganzler. Rosenmeier's direction at times lacks rythm but generally as a first feature for a zero budget it deserves high praise. It marks a striking contrast with the typical depressive negativity which characterises much of the dogma styles Danish cinema. Strange that in Denmark it is not even listed in many movie archives, although it was a nominee for the Danish ROBERT prize
