In 1920, a man is arrested on his wedding night by the Japanese colonial police. He stands accused of taking part in a failed attempt at revolution and he is sentenced to several years imprisonment. His wife passes the time by teaching the servants how to read. However one servant mistakes her purely maternalistic and platonic feelings for something more.
