In an alternate time, humans believe that reading has always been too difficult for them to master. They are completely dependent upon androids known as "Ghost Readers" to read for them. But one human, Robert Walton, learns to read for himself. What will the Ghost Readers do if they find out? Do they serve humanity's best interests?
