Max(Jack Gilford), an 86-year-old backstage doorman at New York's Belasco Theatre, finds a young actress(Lynne Lipton) rehearsing after hours. They strike up a long conversation in which Max recounts his career in Vaudeville and his cherished encounter with the great Judy Garland the week she played the Palace.
