Jeremiah and Betty, a childless couple, find a puppy abandoned in their backyard. Jeremiah wants to take it in, but Betty protests. She continues to fight him, preventing the dog from becoming a part of their lives until she finally recognizes its significance to her husband. By the time her mind has changed, she has pushed Jeremiah too far, and he no longer seems concerned.
