The film follows the Jewish-American rabbi and author, Chaim Potok, on his travels through Prague while recounting the old legend of the Golem and its creator, Rabbi Judah Loew, known by Jewish scholars as the Maharal of Prague, an esteemed 16th century rabbi, scholar, and mystic.
