It's little strange to see Lucien Littlefield in a co-starring role with a full head of hair. He looks and acts like Charlie Ruggles. With Charles Murray as his sergeant, Noah Young as his captain and shells whizzing past him on a World War I battlefield...It's a good Roach comedy with the usual well-run gags and the funny H.M. Walker titles, but it has a very tentative feeling to it. Was it supposed to be one of the Roach All-Stars and nothing more, with just four players? Or was Roach looking to form a comedy pair and figured that Murray's patented Irishman would make a nice contrast to Littlefield's modern neurotic.Whatever it was, it didn't take. This would be Murray's only appearance at the Lot of Fun. He would hit with The Cohens and the Kellys series, and Littlefield would go on to a successful, if not starring career.
