It is August 23, 1944. The last transport has carried all remaining inhabitants of the Lodz Ghetto to Auschwitz for immediate extermination. Two Jewish brothers hide behind and attempt to escape as Nazi soldiers search the ghetto for anyone who has avoided the deportation.
