One summer night, at dusk, 10-year-old Madeleine walks her dog on the grounds of a hotel. She has a disturbing encounter with a strange young man, Laurent Pasquier, who will be accused of a murder the young girl witnesses later that same night. Ten years on, the persistent memory of this event still haunts the young woman Madeleine has now become. She will be free of it when she pieces together the scattered fragments.
