The Littlest Robo

The story of the strained relationship between a man and his young son, living in the open space of the desert. The son looks for a way out of the rut and comes up with a novel approach when he designs a small robot to join the family dynamic.I'm not sure what the meaning behind the story is or what I am meant to take from it, which is a real shame because otherwise this is a very cool short film that effortlessly drew me in. Substance wise I was looking for more or perhaps something to aid my understanding of what I was watching. Perhaps it has a personal meaning to Bows but for me it was a weakness that more was not clear about the robot's actions and that of the father. However in the delivery is where the film is strongest. It looks great and uses different animation styles really well. These are greatly complimented by the wonderful voice work from Wagner. It is hard to describe but his dark, deep tones make the film and I found myself hanging on his narration as much as the animation and story. Kenworthy directs the animators really well and visually it is hard to fault the film. Just a shame that the delivery of the story was not better for the casual viewer.
