As his disassociated daughter admits Neil to a nursing home, his life feels suddenly and severely displaced. In an effort to regain normalcy, he reaches out to his grandson, Eric, begging him to frequently visit. As their relationship matures, Eric begins to deal with his own struggles as a young man trying to cope with mortality and his rapidly fading youth. Neil finds a sense of peace and camaraderie with Eric as he imparts the wisdom of what it means to grow old.
