Cristobal is a young teacher who works in a multigrade group at the primary schoolof San Isidro Laguna. The school is bilingual and has only one teacher for all grades. The class have 19 students who are studying from first grade to sixth grade. San Isidro is a small town which have 25 families producing coffee. The people from the community speak in Chinanteco. When Cristobal, the teacher, arrived to the community he was determined to bringsuccessfully the students knowledge which was expected by the school.Not only having to teach such diverse group of ages, but also children speaking in chinanteco with a limited use of Spanish, the teacher realized the difficulty of the task.When Cristobal started teaching he found out that only one pupil knew how to read.In the searching to solve the scholar struggle of the students, Cristobal got close to the students not only in the classroom but also outside the school time. He would have the different meals through the day at the students home; in the afternoon he would play basketball with the children.The efforts of Cristobal were accomplished. Juan Jose y Juan Manuel, are an exampleof two children attending the school's community. The daily life of the students embraced helping their families in the field, to collect the corn, remove the wild and kill the chicken.The children enjoyed hunting, fishing and listening to music in the jukebox in the main square.The future of these children is uncertain. The father of Juan Manuel did not knowif his son would continue studying his education in the town's school or send himto a state shelter far away from the community. Juan Jose's family have not decide yet if he would continue studying middle school or he would drop out from the schoolto start working in the fields.During the school year between advances and retreats, the obstacles inside and outside of the classroom, make difficult to accomplish the goals of the school.It is uncertain to know their destiny.
