Sheffield Steel, Yemeni Dreams

🎞️ Movie 30 min GB
2014

The postwar Sheffield steel industry reached out globally for more manpower, and thousands of young men migrated from rural farms in The Yemen, drawn by the dream of better life for themselves and their families. They lived a tough existence - dealing with the hostile foundry environment, learning English on the job and negotiating their religion within this new setting. Today these unsung heroes live in limbo between two worlds: their families back in The Yemen, and their often isolated lives as 'Yorkshire Arabs'. This documentary sees these men reflect back across their lives, and the impact their tough choices had on them and the generations to come.
