A Night A Day

Honour killing is a relatively new phenomenon in Kerala although it is rampant in other parts of India. Kerala recently faced an unprecedentedly huge flood in its history. On the other side, the longest river of Kerala, Bharathapuzha flows in decay. Despite the devastating natural calamities, hierarchies on the basis of caste, religion, skin color and money continue intact. Oru Rathri Oru Pakal (A Day, A Night) attempts to represent this reality of the human condition and nature. The lead pair make use of punch dialogues of mainstream commercial films in Malayalam. Thus, it becomes a counter-narrative against the hierarchies sustained by the commercial films for box office success. The prime concept of the film is death, embodied by the river and man. Death enters into the film as a deluge and love. The overflowing river of the rainy season gets parched during summer. Similarly, the man blossoms during his love, and is parched during his loveless state.
