Doghat Ek Shauchalay (Common Toilet)

Mumbai is a city that houses several times the number of people it can accommodate. The consequent space crunch, however, has led people to adapt to new ways of co-existence. The specific example in this film is of a shared toilet between two families. Owning to the intimacy that is inevitably tied with a washroom, the two families also find themselves building a shared life of meal exchanges as well as an affinity between all of its family members. While they seemed to be working unanimously as a single unit, one event occurs that throws them out of balance and into disarray. The arrival of an older family member results in trouble between him and the youngest member, the child, in the neighbouring family, and thus begins a conflict, which though endearing and insignificant at the start, soon culminates into something far bitter.
