The film opens with an animated prologue about Adam and Eve, by Tony Sarg. The viewer is then introduced to a young couple, Eve and Jim, who are having troubles in their marriage. Eve is frustrated by housework and dreams of living a wealthier lifestyle. While out shopping, Eve runs into an old flame, Don, who has earned his fortune overseas. When Jim starts working late nights, Eve turns to Don to share her frustrations about being poor. Don eventually asks her to leave her husband and run away with him. On the day she intends to leave, Jim tells her he has a surprise delivery for her. The delivery turns out to be a Hoover vacuum cleaner, and Jim comes home before she leaves to surprise her with the news that he has received a promotion. Eve decides to stay with Jim and leaves Don waiting for her.
