Magpies is a historical fiction short film based on the true story of women who were secretly recruited to work as codebreakers and cryptanalysts during WWII. It was a rare shot at independence and intelligent professional work, but the catch was they couldn't marry or tell anyone what they really did - they'd have to play themselves off as secretaries, even decades after they helped break some of the most important coding systems in the war. This film focuses on the moment three young women are recruited and follows as they try to decide whether to pursue the opportunity.
