James FitzPatrick begins the visit to Algiers with references to high-seas piracy and Commodore Perry's armada. The French influence on the North Africa is reviewed, we visit the Casbah and later a typical Arab family. Then it's on to Morocco: Casablanca, a cultural crossroads, Rabat with its sultan's palace and crowded market, and Marrakech with its fine hotel (the Mamounia) and a busy town square.
