Inside fabricated walls, an antique doll and her well-persevered companions picnic as nightmarish elements offer sustenance in manageable portions. I have been a lucid dreamer and an insomniac all of my life. According to Freud, thoughts that are hidden from our conscious mind are revealed in our unconscious through inoffensive coded dream-thoughts that we forget upon waking. He believed that this repressed material could only be interpreted by free-association while fully awake during psychoanalysis. I am asserting that in certain cases the lines between conscious and unconscious can be blurred and crossed. With the blurring of these boundaries, I propose that while lucid dreaming and/or during in an insomnia-induced hallucination, it's possible to personally analyze these codes without being fully awake. Simulating this phenomenon in film, as the director I shot this entire animation without any sleep whatsoever. Using items I've collected, objects from dreams I've had, surreal images from my childhood, and some repressed thoughts I have already uncovered. In this experiment in intuitive film-making, I change the story, materials and props as I see fit during production. In doing this, my hope is to not only play with found connections between lucid dreaming and insomnia-based hallucinations, but to intuitively discover other hidden secrets residing within my own mind.
