Two gangsters find themselves stuck in a rainstorm. Frank, the lead character and narrator, reflects on the attachments he has drawn from others, including those of Tommy, the other lead character. Tommy thinks of himself as Frank's mentor, despite Frank's constant suggestions to the contrary.
