A southern Italian girl is born redheaded and left-handed and considered 'the daughter of the devil'. Rejected and mistreated she develops a chronic and severe spasticity. Taken to Dr. Rosh she rediscovers herself and learns how society has coerced her into illness. She confronts mother and faces the most difficult choice of her life.
