Maisy is eleven and she and her father, Lawrence (Terry Lander) attend her mother's funeral. Her father tries to comfort her but she expresses she doesn't like the smell of him drinking. He promises that he will stop drinking for her. Fast forward five years later and things have taken a turn. Lawrence is heavy drinking and regularly yells at Maisy (Sophie Lander). One day, she chooses to try and argue back and it results in an argument between her and her dad, ending in Lawrence pushing Misy to the floor and her bashing her head. She goes to escape but Lawrence threatens her, telling her that he would find her if she did and she would never forget about it. One day, a neighbor, Jill (Helen Ruse), pop's by for a chat, expressing her concern about Maisy. Lawrence explains to Jill that Maisy is just unwell. That night, Maisy plucks up the courage to escape, narrowly avoiding her father's clutches and running off into the night to a friend's house, leaving her father promising his return.
