March 1968, Monte Bisbino on the Italian-Swiss border near Lake Como. A group of young smugglers fall into an ambush of the tax police but manage to escape. With this episode starts the story that an old man, Ennio Verga, a previous 'mule' tells his grandchild. It's a story of smuggling inspired by real life in the after-war period when many Italians near the border lived on illegal trafficking of cigarettes, coffee and sugar from Switzerland. And there is also another story that Ennio tells when the grandchild has fallen asleep...
