When David joins Roster, a virtual community aimed at college students, he thinks little of Kristin Roberts, a stranger who contacts him through it. Yet when he stumbles on Kristin's Back Room, a lurid, digital mirror of her mind and body, he contemplates seeking out the human behind the representation.
