Alan is a brilliant and dedicated physicist, trying to juggle his family and career. His life is thrown into turmoil when he accidentally runs over the family dog after being kicked out by his wife Susan. He becomes fixated on making amends with Susan, at the expense of his relationship with daughter Jess - who tries to reconcile with her father, but is frustrated by his inability to accept the situation. Finally resorting to an unorthodox approach, they finally make a connection which could be the start of the healing process for both of them.
