Taking to the Street

Created in 2007 by 4 former journalists of the French newspaper 'Libération', Rue89 is an interactive news website. At the core of the information production process, the readers are encouraged to comment on the articles, provide journalists with information, as well as to write articles themselves. Filmed in 2009, 'Taking to the Street' attests to this on-going attempt to revitalize the journalistic practice. With the crisis weighing on the press, the film questions the possibility of creating today an independent press organ, the conditions of this independence, the specificity of participative journalism.
