Nora, a teenage girl, is poised to be the first in her family to attend college. Her boyfriend Nathan, who has already lost his mother to cancer and his father to depression, is worried that she will leave him behind. Nathan visits Nora at home, and when he arrives she reveals that her period is late and that she may be pregnant. She sees this as an insurmountable obstacle to success in higher learning and we enter her subconscious as she wonders through a shifting dream world. Nathan figures the pregnancy is his last chance to make her stay with him (instead of leaving for college) and tries to calm her. Nora tells Nathan that she doesn't know if she loves him, which pushes Nathan into a dream world. We see memories and premonitions as both characters grapple with their fears. The must rely on each other to snap out of the dream world and face their future head-on.
