It is the winter of 1776. Outside the battle of White Plains a young soldier deserts battle. As he descends the icy slops of Chatterton Hill he hears the agonizing screams of the comrades he left behind. Although plagued by guilt he can't bring himself to return. As he continues down the hill he hears someone approaching. Fastening his bayonet he jolts out in an act of desperation and stabs the approaching soldier. The young boy looks in horror as he realizes that his own comrade lies dead under his knife. As he is covering up his crime, two high ranking colonial officers approach. The boy is trapped. But the guilt he carries from his actions drives the boy to madness.
