In Ekholm Highschool, Emma, 17, is presented as a new student. In front of the class, the teacher asks her about her background. On the schoolyard Emma finds it hard to connect with others. She goes home, depressed. Her mother encourages her to take up her hobby of frisbee golf in order to make new friends. She finds the local frisbee golf field, where suddenly Richard shows up. Richard is a loner from her class and he is good at frisbee golf. By mistake he throws a frisbee that hits Emma's head. As Richard instructs Emma on how to throw the discs correctly, they start getting to know each other. Next day in school, Richard is alone in the school corridor. Nobody talks with him. He cracks a joke in front of a group, but is ignored. Emma starts talking to three girls. They ask her about her background. They see Richard down the corridor and comments how ridiculous he is. Emma doesn't say anything. As the girls rise and walk away, they seem not to care about Emma at all. Later on the schoolyard, Emma walks with the girls and passes Richard. He says hi to her, but she ignores him. Later at the frisee golf field as Emma is practicing, Richard shows up and says that apparently he is not good enough for her. Actually he is not good enough for anybody, he says. He continues to instruct Emma on how to throw the discs. They become friends 'again' and walk together, playing and laughing. Richard cracks a few jokes and Emma laughs. As they say goodbye, Emma says she is sorry that she didn't say hello to him at school. 'It won't happen again', she says. Richard says it's cool. Next day in school, the girls sit with Emma. As other students walk by, they mock and laugh at them behind their backs. Suddenly Richard walks by and says hello to Emma. She ignores him again. As he walks away, the girls throw things at him and mock him. They ask Emma what that was all about, and she says she has no idea. At the frisbee golf field, Emma and Richard are participating in a group training. When the others have walked away, Richard confronts Emma and says she is just like all the other ones. He says, 'Either you recognize me in school, or we aren't friends at all'. She says okay, then we aren't friends. Richard leaves the field angry. Secretly, Emma follows Richard as he bikes home, and finally rings at his door. He opens, sour. Again she says she is sorry and asks to come in. He lets her in to his room. Richard's room is full of all kinds of exotic things and Emma is impressed. He performs a little drum solo on his drums. Emma invites him to the sofa, and they talk about why Richard is being bullied at. Richard says he doesn't know, it has always been like that. Emma says he is a good and funny guy. Suddenly they almost kiss, but then Richard's mum shouts his name. As Emma and Richard say goodbye outside, Vickan, one of the girls, happen to walk by. She sees them hugging. Next day in school, the girls are standing in the corridor, and Emma walks by. They ask if she has studied for the test. She doesn't even say hello to them, and they mock her. Emma goes to a bathroom. We hear her thoughts as she recalls the things that the girls and Richard have said. She washes her face. The class now has a test. Emma, Richard and the girls are all present. Suddenly Vickan writes a note and passes it around. The students smile as they read it. As it is passed to Emma, we see the text: 'Emma loves Nerd-Richard' Emma suddenly has enough. She looks around and see the girls giggling. Suddenly she bursts up, walks over to Richard, takes his hand, raises him up and says to the whole class, 'Now it's us, okay?' She kisses him in front of everybody and the film ends.
