In 1947, a border was created between Italy and Yugoslavia. The border cut people off from their native country as well as farmers from their land. Crossing the border was only permitted to those who had land on both sides. Ivan is an old Yugoslavian farmer whose house is in Italy and whose fields cut across the border with Slovenia. He lives his life in solitude taking care of his land. One day a Yugoslavian girl arrives at his door asking for shelter. Aware of the risks, and reminded of a painful past, Ivan decides to open his door to Marija. However, the everyday dangers and the fear of the border seem to be dominating their lives.
