Inspired by Euripides' tragedy, The Bacchae, Maenad, follows a woman's decent into madness and chaos. Created as an experiment in non-dialogue story-telling, the film uses the frenetic entanglement of the real, the imagined and the metaphorical, to depict a struggle between the twin forces of control and release, or subservience and freedom. But while this struggle is evident, ultimately, it is unclear who, or what, is controlling whom.
