My Berkeley Riots

🎞️ Movie 7 min --
2010

The Berkeley riots were filmed by Larry Nimmer in 1970 as he began his college career. To celebrate the 40th anniversary, Nimmer presents his footage to the public for the first time. Using old Super 8 film, Nimmer shows a typical day on campus and the daily pattern of escalating actions. Days began with classes, followed by a noon protest rally. The 'street people' from Telegraph Avenue would get things going by throwing rocks. The police would respond with tear gas and the students would respond with their own rock throwing. Things would escalate from their and the day would end in violence. Nimmer's unique footage is a priceless record of life on campus from another time.
