In Jewish tradition as in so many other traditions, people have feared and continue to this day to fear the so-called evil eye. Some Jews have gone to great lengths to protect themselves from this bearer of bad luck and harm. The primary victims of the evil eye are thought to be babies and young children, because they are so often praised and commented upon by strangers, especially childless women. The fear is that these barren women, even unknowingly, will harm children or be driven by sorrow and jealousy to steal them. This short experimental film Kein Ayin Hara (No Evil Eye) explores the story behind these outcast women past and present, as they confront their own infertility and attempt to re-conceive their predicament.
