Narcisse's mother, Mrs. Durand, wants him to marry Miss Poupardin, although he loves Colette. When Miss Poupardin and her mother come to visit, Colette takes the place of Mrs. Durand and makes them spend a miserable time. When the actual Mrs. Durand comes back, the two women yell at her. The two lovers eventually get married.
