Der End Sieg

As WW II began to turn in favor of the Soviets on the Eastern front, many German soldiers began to realize that their early successes were now merely history. As these soldiers were faced with being either captured or killed, they were forced to realize that the propaganda directed towards them by their own military, was false. In captivity, one such soldier recollects on the events of the early war years and then imagines a heroic alternate ending to the events that precluded his capture. Der End Sieg is both a term used by the German military to predict their imagined Final Victory over the allies, as well as a suggestion that surrender is the final chance that a soldier has to vanquish death.
