Odd One Out is an experimental science-fiction story in which the end of the world is caused by the smallest of actions. Beginning with the simple act of lighting of a match, the story unfolds of a secret underground experiment to create a mechanized colossus, which goes horribly wrong when a mysterious organization of black-suited creeps conspires to let the create loose. The setting is a surreal fantasy version of the 1940s, where the people are faceless, living storefront mannequins, and futuristic elements like touch-tone phones and live TV are common. The look of the film is inspired in equal parts by classic film noir and the acid-tinged primary colors of Flash Gordon.
