A lonely janitor, Marshall, stumbles upon a child's makeshift book while doing his routine cleaning at the local orphanage. He soon realizes that the book belongs to a sick orphan, James, who has listed in his book a series of tasks he wants to complete before he dies. With a bond of love and friendship, Marshall and James set out to complete these goals and eventually complete the greatest task of all.
