The Pratt Brothers: Builders of Zion
The Jared Pratt family originated in New York. Several of the family members joined the Mormon Church (more correctly, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) and moved with it to various places (e.g., Ohio, Illinois, Missouri, Utah). The parents died in Hamtramck, Michigan, near what is now Detroit. Two of the Pratt brothers eventually became apostles in the Mormon Church, Parley and Orson. Parley was a gifted writer; Orson, a scientist. He plotted the Saints' course across the plains each night, was an astronomer, invented an odometer of sorts. He also established the coördinates of the center of Salt Lake City, etc. Parley was unfortunately murdered in the prime of life on a missionary trip to Arkansas in a matter concerning his wife and her former husband. They both served many missions for the church all across the United States and especially Orson, the British Isles. The Pratt family has many descendants across the United States, other countries, and hundreds come every other year to a Pratt Family reunion in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. This video contains documentaries on the Pratt brothers: Anson, William, Parley, Orson, and Nelson and on many of these subjects mentioned. This is a wonderful documentary about one family's faith and dedication to their religion, and their living legacy, as it continues today and will continue into the future.
