It's 2036. America is bankrupt, two of the last three presidents have been assassinated, the health care system is defunct, lawlessness covers most of the country, and hopelessness is common. There are even 'Checkout Lines', government funded facilities termed Voluntary Dissolvement Facility, where civilians go to terminate themselves, rid them of this heinous, meaningless existence. The government loves it, the best form of population control. Nate and Jamie find that their lives are so bleak and hopeless that they resort to the ultimate final decision, to end their lives at the Checkout Line. They meet at the line and as they begin to scrape away the layers of each others past they fall in love and exit the line, thus changing their decision and lives.
