The story about an American family that is affected by the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan. Eddie, a timid five-year-old boy, lives with his paternal grandmother. David, Eddie's father, is a doctor in Japan. To help people, including his friend and Eddie's maternal family, David decides to remain in Japan after the disaster. David jokingly asks Eddie to be the man of the house during his absence and to look after his grandmother. Given this responsibility and in an effort to cheer up his grief stricken grandmother, Eddie decides to go outside by himself for the first time to buy strawberry shortcake for her birthday. The journey includes many obstacles. Can Eddie overcome his fear and successfully deliver the cake to his beloved grandmother?
