Brent Ashworth, a manager in a clothes factory is married to Karen, an alcoholic housewife who litters their relationship with torment and abuse. On being invited to a fancy dress party where Karen is amongst like-minded friends, she demands that Brent take her shopping. Whilst having a cocktail coffee, and Brent is absent, Karen makes an odd phone call to a friend. On returning home Karen gets impatient as she waits for her husband to get ready. As she goes to reprimand him she discovers that all is not what it seems with her husband.
