Xangô

Xango, the elemental energy of fire, the god of thunder and lightening from the ancient African Yoruban tradition survives on in the religious mythology and the daily spiritual lives of the Afro-Brazilian people of Bahia, Brazil. In the far reaches of the past he began as a shaman, evolved into a priest and then a king, finally transcending human form to become fire and lightening in elemental form. In the end he remembers that he is a shaman dreaming of fire and lightening. The music and the dancing are from the living traditions in the contemporary candomble houses in Bahia.
