Rufe Rufe Davis), a hillbilly mimic goes to the big city to find the woman he has fallen in love with by seeing her picture. He meets Dawn (Anne Shirley), a tap-dancer from his home town and she takes him to a movie studio where his imitation of a crying baby gets him a film contract. His hillbilly friends, The Rdaio Rubes, come to town and they go to a cabaret. There, he sees the person in the picture performing on stage. But a wig slips off and Rufe discovers the love-of-his-life is a man.
