Newspaper reporter Eddie Borden is assigned to cover the kidnapping of a heiress by the bad-to-the-bone Al Baloney gang. He enters, by the way of the chimney, the house where the gang is holding the girl. He then tells them a story so sad they all burst into tears and turn the girl over to him. He calls his scoop in to his newspaper but dials the wrong number and gives it to a rival newspaper.
